Inside 'The Jungle' Migrant Camp in Calais

A migrant man walks in "The Jungle" of Calais, on November 9, 2015, in Calais, France. The community of migrants living in French Calais in what is called “ The Jungle” have been blocked at the Northen point of their voyage towards Great Britain, just kilometres from their final destination. For now as they face winter the ever going migrant community now estimated to be over 6,000 struggle to prepare for difficult winter conditions. The new settlement have migrants from Pakistan, Eritrea, Sudan, Syria, Afghanistan, Iran and other regions following different religious sects and speaking many different languages. They have had to build to their own shelter to protect from them from the cold and the enemy of boredom as they await for their documents. The migrants show a high level of resourcefulness in that they are building permanent roads lined with shops, restaurants, cafes and homes ready for the winter. With very little presence of NGOS on the ground and government agencies to help the migrants are fending for themselves building a “town” that is growing daily.’ (Photo by Gail Orenstein/NurPhoto)
