Higantes Festival In Philippines
Papier-mache statues walk through the streets of Angono, Rizal, during the Higantes Festival grand parade on November 20, 2022. After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the locals celebrate their town's festival for the first time. The Higantes, or papier-mache giants, were thought to have been created by local farmers during the Spanish colonization era as a form of protest against their landlords. The giant papier-mache puppets range in size from four to five feet in diameter and ten to twelve feet in height, and they can only be controlled from within. (Photo by Ryan Eduard Benaid/NurPhoto)
