Blue Ice Cave Of The Vatnajökull Glacier
People wearing safety clothing and equipment are seen walking through the corridors of the Blue Cave on the Vatnajökull glacier. Skaftafell, October 18, 2022. Ice caves occur in the lava tubes or caverns either when the frigid winter air settles or when moisture from cold air currents freezes due to the low temperature in the different chambers. Also the accumulation of water seeping into the subsoil causes ice zones in these areas of the lava tubes. (Photo by Jorge Mantilla/NurPhoto)
