Manufacture Of Umbrellas And Chairs In Egypt
Mit Kenana, the center of Toukh, Qalyubia Governorate, is one of the villages located east of the Nile River and is famous for agriculture and industry. The umbrella and chairs industry is considered one of the most popular industries spread among its people, with a population of 55,000 people, and 10% of them work in the manufacture of umbrellas, tents, the walls of cafes, villas, and tents made of “date henna” sticks, which represent a source of livelihood for the people of the village. Tourist villages, Gulf countries, and Greece prevail with their products, and their students work in that industry during their summer vacation, as the henna plant is cultivated in the governorates of Upper Egypt due to climatic changes, and henna wood is purchased from Aswan and transported through transport vehicles, after which it is placed in water for two weeks until it is softened. In the third stage, it is cut and cleaned to be used in the manufacture of handicrafts in Qalyubia Governorate, Egypt, December 3, 2022. (Photo by Mahmoud Elkhwas/NurPhoto)
