Solanum mammosum fruit for sale during Chinese New Year. These fruit are put in the home for two weeks during the Chinese New Year in Markham, Ontario, Canada.. These fruit have five protrusions which symbolize the five generations of the family living in harmony under one roof. This also symbolizes longevity, prosperity, and happiness for the family. Solanum mammosum fruit are sold at Chinese floral shops for the occasion of the Chinese Lunar New Year. These fruit are grown for ornamental purposes, in part because of the distal end of the fruit resembles a woman's breast, while the proximal end looks like a cow's udder. It is reputed to have medicinal use in various treatments ranging from athlete's foot to irritability and restlessness, it is imported to Taiwan and Hong Kong from South America as decorative foliage for use in religious ceremonies and festivals and use in floral arrangements.
