International Space Station Lunar Transit

A composite image of the International Space Station transiting in front of the moon on January 14, 2023, in Gampaha, Sri Lanka. The International Space Station is the largest modular space station in low Earth orbit. An International Space Station crew of seven people lives and works while traveling at a speed of five miles per second, orbiting Earth about every 90 minutes. Sometimes more are aboard the station during a crew handover. The time taken for the International Space Station to transit in front of the Moon is 0.5 seconds.
