The glossy ibis (Plegadis falcinellus) is a water bird in the order Pelecaniformes and the ibis and spoonbill family Threskiornithidae found in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and Americas. The scientific name derives from the Ancient Greek plegados and Latin, falcis, both meaning ''sickle'' and referring to the distinctive shape of the bill. The head, rest of upperparts, wings, and tail blackish glossed with purple and green with a decurved bill, long neck, and long legs.
