Plastic Waste Discharges From Rivers In Indonesia

A small group of volunteers worked to clean up styrofoam from the Ciliwung River in Bogor, Indonesia, on March 4, 2023. Plastic waste is on the rise across Asia and accounts for 54% of the world's plastic, led by China and Japan. Indonesia is one of the world's biggest plastic waste producers, along with China, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Plastic pollution breaks down into non-biodegradable microparticles that pose potential threats to wildlife and human health. (Photo by Garry Lotulung/NurPhoto)
