UN Press Conference About India’ As The Most Populous Country
John Wilmoth, Director, Population Division, UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and Sarah Hertog, Senior Population Affairs Officer, Population Division, DESA hold a press conference about India overtaking China as the world’s most populous country at the United Nations Headquarters on April 24, 2023 in New York City, USA. Representatives referred to the “economic dividend” as it relates to the increase of the working population, stating that the trend can only lead to the India’s prosperity if people are engaged to enter the workforce no matter of the legal age. By some estimates India will surpass China’s population or the “crossover point”, between now and sometime in 2024. India is expected to reach approximately 1.5 billion citizens by 2045.
