The entrance gate to the small cemetery of Barbiana is seen in Barbiana, Vicchio, Tuscany, Italy, on April 7, 2026. The iron gate, set within an ancient moss-covered stone perimeter wall, is slightly ajar; a notice asks visitors to close it. The cemetery holds the grave of Don Lorenzo Milani, the priest and educator who served as prior of Barbiana from 1954 until his death in 1967 and whose work became a foundational reference for progressive pedagogy.
