A woman is holding a portrait of a Palestinian woman reading 'Gaza: faces not numbers'. Hundreds of people are demonstrating in Toulouse, France, on May 18, 2024, in support of Gazans, the Gaza Strip, and more generally for Palestine. Since the Hamas attack on Israel on Oct. 7th, the Gaza Strip has been put by Israel under a complete blockade: no water, no food, no electricity, no fuel, no medicines, and sometimes no communications with the outside world. South Africa is pleading in the International Justice Court against Israel for not preventing a genocide in Gaza. More than 80 countries are siding with South Africa in its case. The U.N. is estimating that up to 2 million people in the Gaza Strip--or more than 85% of the population--are being forced to flee Israel's devastating bombing campaign. Even after Israel is striking hospitals, UN shelters, UN schools, ambulances, press buildings, the global North is supporting Israel while the global South is wanting an enduring ceasefire as soon as possible. Only one hospital in the Gaza Strip is still partly functional. U.N. experts are calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza for months, saying Palestinians are at 'grave risk of genocide'. Despite its order for civilians to leave areas of Gaza, Israel's military is continuing to bomb the south of the Strip as well. To date, 1,147 Israelis have been killed and more than 35,272 Palestinians (more than 10,000 children killed) have been killed. Hundreds of thousands of people are protesting and have protested across the world against this cruel and barbaric war.

Environmental activists from Enter Nusantara, Market Force, and Greenpeace Indonesia, who are part of the Civil Society Coalition, are performing a theatrical action on their way to present the ''Toxic Bond'' award to Adaro Energy Indonesia in Jakarta, Indonesia, on May 8, 2024. Greenpeace Indonesia is stating through a press release that they are carrying out this action in response to the Dirty 30 analysis by Toxic Bond, which identified Adaro Energy Indonesia as one of the world's 30 dirtiest bond issuers, alongside other fossil fuel companies such as Exxon and Shell, with a bond value of US$750 million. Additionally, research from the Carbon Major Database indicates that Adaro is one of the companies accountable for 80% of carbon emissions since the signing of the Paris Agreement from 2016 to 2022. Adaro Energy Indonesia itself is a holding company engaged in business through subsidiaries in the coal mining and services sector, as well as renewable and non-renewable energy, utilities, minerals, mineral processing, and supporting infrastructure, with its headquarters in Jakarta.

Activists from Extinction Rebellion are standing in front of the Capitole in Toulouse, France, on May 4, 2024, holding placards that read 'Stop A69, another way is possible', 'No fuel in our schools', and 'No more vegetables for our kids'. Extinction Rebellion Toulouse is organizing an action called 'Hello Darkness' in front of the town hall, the Capitole, to protest against the controversial A69 highway between Toulouse and Castres. They are also protesting against the construction of several bitumen plants near schools and organic vegetable producers along the A69. Some activists have fake bitumen on them to symbolize the pollution from asphalt production. Police have intervened and arrested five people. The main association 'La Voie est Libre' is demanding that construction of the highway be halted until all judicial decisions are made. The expropriations for farmers have not been resolved. Opponents of the project argue that reprofiling the N126 would be sufficient for the 6,000 vehicles expected per day and would cost much less. The A69 highway is projected to cost EUR512 million (in 2018 euros, excluding inflation) for 54 kilometers, and its construction would destroy habitats for over 100 protected species and 400 hectares of agricultural land.
