The mosque of Ibn Tulun is being commissioned by Ahmad Ibn Tulun, 'Abbasid governor of Egypt. Construction is beginning in 263 AH/876 AD and finishing in 265 AH/879 AD. It is located on Jebal Yashkur (in modern-day Ahmad Ibn Tulun Square, Sayyida Zaynab). The mosque is being distinguished by its spiral minaret, which is echoing the designs of the al-Abbas mosque in Samarra, Iraq. The arches and the windows of the mosque's courtyard are containing stucco designs of geometric and floral patterns. A water fountain is being positioned in the center of the courtyard, surmounted by a dome supported on marble columns. The interior of the mosque is containing six mihrabs in Cairo, Egypt, on August 4, 2024.
