Parts of Kathmandu Valley are shrouded under a thick blanket of polluted smog with the onset of winter, causing the Air Quality Index (AQI) of the bowl-shaped valley to dip to unhealthy levels on October 17, 2024. According to the reading from the air pollution station of the US Embassy in Kathmandu, the AQI of Kathmandu on October 17 is 155, making the air of Kathmandu Valley unhealthy.
