In Oswiecim, Poland, on January 27, 2026, survivor Wieslaw Paciorek lays wreaths and lights candles at the Death Wall near Block 11 during the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp. Auschwitz is a German Nazi concentration and extermination camp and remains the most recognizable symbol of the Holocaust. Jews from across Europe are murdered there, along with Poles, Roma, Sinti, and Soviet prisoners of war. On January 27, 1945, the Red Army enters the camp, liberating its prisoners. Twenty-one survivors participate in the commemoration.
