Police are involved in a shooting, leaving one person wounded and two police officers injured in Newark, New Jersey, United States, on August 12, 2024. At approximately 8:34 p.m., Monday evening, two uniformed police officers from the Newark Police Department in a marked patrol vehicle are noticing a reported stolen SUV parked in the area of Clinton Place near the intersection of Hawthorne Avenue in Newark. Upon investigating, they are observing an adult male seated in the parked vehicle's front passenger seat. The officers are approaching the vehicle and, as they are detaining the passenger, a second male is exiting a nearby store, entering the vehicle, and getting behind the wheel. Police officers are then attempting to detain the male who has gotten into the driver's seat. A struggle is ensuing, and the vehicle is accelerating, initially backward and then forward. One police officer is firing his duty weapon, striking the driver. The vehicle is striking the officers' patrol car, which is positioned at an angle in front of the reportedly stolen vehicle. The vehicle is then traveling forward across the street, onto a sidewalk, and crashing into a building and then into unoccupied vehicles parked along the street. Police officers are providing medical aid to the driver, who is later transported to the hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition. Two police officers are also transported to the hospital, where they are treated for minor injuries and released.

One person is dying after a vehicle collision following a police pursuit in Brooklyn, New York, on May 26, 2024. On Sunday, May 26, 2024, at approximately 5:28 a.m., police are responding to a motor vehicle collision in the vicinity of Central Avenue and Gates Avenue. Further investigation by NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is determining that a marked police vehicle is attempting to conduct a traffic stop on a Mercedes Benz operated by 32-year-old male Juan Lopez, when it flees westbound on Gates Avenue, traveling at an apparent high rate of speed, in an attempt to evade police. The Mercedes Benz is disobeying a steady red traffic signal at the intersection of Central Avenue and collides with a Honda Pilot operated by a 34-year-old female, traveling southbound on Central Avenue with a green light. The Mercedes Benz is losing control of the vehicle and mounting the sidewalk, where it comes to a rest. A 29-year-old female rear passenger of the Honda Pilot is ejected. EMS is transporting the 29-year-old female passenger, Micah Dukes, to the hospital where she is pronounced dead. The 32-year-old operator of the Mercedes Benz is taken into custody and is facing several charges. Occupants of the Honda Pilot, which include a 34-year-old female, 31-year-old female, and a 30-year-old male, are reporting no injuries from the collision.
