Marian devotees observes the Red Wednesday in International Marian Shrine in Antipolo City, Philippines on November 23, 2022. Red Wednesday is a yearly commemoration of Christians who endure suffering and persecution for their faith. Aid to the Church in Need - United Kingdom started Red Wednesday in 2016, and several dioceses in the Philippines joined the initiative in 2017. 360 million Christians in 76 countries have endured terrible prejudice and persecution in the past year; 5,898 of them were killed, and 4,765 received prison sentences or other forms of incarceration without being given a chance to defend themselves. Red has a significant symbolism for Christians. It stands for the flame of the Holy Spirit, the strength of love, and the blood of martyrs. This year's Red Wednesday celebration features the theme "Blessed are the Persecuted," highlighting the significance of giving persecuted Christians across the globe the aid they so desperately need. The main Red Wednesday festivities this year are being held in the Philippines at the International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage in Antipolo City.
