Elephants returned to Ban Taklang from the tourist island of Phuket now spend their days being take care by their original owners. Most elephants employed by the tourism industry were forced to return to their original owners, after the COVID-19 outbreak forced the closure of the camps that employed them. On June 29, 2021 in Surin, Thailand. Thailand has been closed to international tourism for over a year due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Most elephant camps in tourist destinations around the country had to close down and the elephants have now been forced to return home to their original owners. While "elephant tourism" is in itself controversial, at home the animals face an uncertain future, as often they are the only source of income for the families who own them.

Andreona is a manicurist that travels around Centro and the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro to support herself and her two children. They were living in a favela in the north zone of rio when their home collapsed which left Andreona with a large scar on her right arm, they had no choice but to leave the favela since their home was beyond being able to be repaired after the collapse. She came to occupation with her two children because it was and still is the safest option her herself and her family. Andreona says that even though they are in a precarious situation that she likes it because she feels that they have a small community growing within the Planatu Hotel and that it's a safe space for everyone. These families having been occupying buildings for quite a long time in Rio de Janeiro. Some of them have been moving around for years while others have just now had to hold space to have a shelter for themselves and their children. Due to the rampant gentrification that's been spreading through Rio in the wake of the World Cup and the up coming Olympics many have been shoved to the edge financially and have been forced out through rising rents or being evicted by the Brazilian Military Police. They are occupying these buildings to use them as a bargaining tool with the city government. These buildings are all in desirable areas for development so the families are hoping that they can argue their case for social assistance by holding these spaces. They know the city wants to be able to demolish and sell the land the building are on to developers that are gentrifying Rio de Janeiro. By holding these spaces they effectively holding on to something the city wants and they believe they can use that as a bargaining tool to get more social assistance. Abdul Latif Hafawi, 39, in his small farm for doves on the rooftop of his house. He lost the movement of his legs during the second intifada, and can’t stand without crutches. Abdul Latif’s wife assists him when he needs. He could not forget that he took a long time to retrieve the movement in his right hand after being was paralyzed for several months. Abdul Latif has 7 children; he received 4 of them after injury. He found himself teaches his children at home because of Injury, and he say they are high achievers because of him. a tight life, they closed my father's shop, interfere in our lives and restrict our freedom in movement, was not other choice but to participate in the second intifada, to throw stones on Israeli army. I'm not working now, but i receive a monthly salary from the Palestinian Authority instead of disability, beside my Wife's salary she earns every month from her work as a teacher; Abdul Latif said. In October last year this neighbor had to leave the room where he lived with her two children because he could not cope with the rent, the caseworker's response when she called to say he was on the street was quote: "Good for when you are on the street and call the Social Samur that will take your kids to the Community of Madrid and with you we'll see what will happen". She replied that if she had a decent social rent would not be in this situation the assistant's response was: "Do not go for those or i'll hang up you" Before being on the street with their children, somebody tell her a building where she was indicated that there was an empty apartment that had been evicted by Bankia over 1 year, the floor was in a sorry state with no doors, no kitchen but with the help of the people occupy that house and now she's living in it. So far the police had not come, but last Friday 28-June-2013 was presented the police, the court and the locksmith with immediate eviction order, but they did not know who they would vacate, because that order had no name. The mother said she could not go because she was with her ??children alone, and one of them Mariam suffers from a chronic lung disease, They said they give her a week and on Friday they'll return, and the best that she can do is to left the keys of the house in court and go outside the house.
