The Crotalaria Juncea Is An Annual Plant That Is Native To India, And Is Also Known As Indian Hemp, Brown Hemp, Madras-hemp, And Bengal Hemp. It Has A Terminal Open Raceme That Can Be Up To 25 Cm Long And Bears Showy, Deep-yellow Papillonaceous Flowers. The Plant Can Grow To A Height Of 3-9 Ft And Has A Lengthy Tap Root With Vigorous Lateral Roots. The Fruit Of The Crotalaria Juncea, Also Known As Sunn Hemp, Is A Cylindrical, Hairy Pod That Contains Many Seeds And Is Light Brown In Color When Mature. It Is About 3-6 Cm Long And 1-2 Cm In Diameter. The Fruit Is Also Known As A ''rattlepod'' Because Its Seeds Appear Clustered In A Pod. The Crotalaria Juncea Can Be Used As A Cover Crop To Improve Soil Properties, Reduce Soil Erosion, Conserve Soil Water, And Recycle Plant Nutrients. When Grown As A Summer Annual, It Can Produce Over 5,000 Pounds Of Biomass And 100 Pounds Of Nitrogen Per Acre. Crotalaria Juncea Has Many Practical Applications In The Modern World. First, It Is A Source Of Natural Fiber, Used For Cordage, Fishing Nets, Ropes, And More. It Is Particularly Beneficial Because Of Its Resistance To Root-knot Nematodes And Is Also A Soil Improving Crop Via Nitrogen Fixation. Crotalaria Juncea Holds A Relatively High Fuel Value. In the last two months, Petrobras, a company controlled by the Brazilian Government, reduced the price of fuels in refineries. The reduced value of the fuel, however, did not reach consumers. Petrobras supplies the fuel to distributors and allows the free market to set selling prices to consumers.
