The Lilac borer moth larva (Podosesia syringae) is in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on July 09, 2025. The Lilac borer larvae, also known as ash borer larvae, are the immature, destructive stage of the lilac borer moth. They tunnel into the wood of lilac, ash, and privet trees, feeding on the phloem and outer sapwood. This feeding activity weakens the tree, creating tunnels that can be up to 32 cm long. The tunnels can lead to dieback, branch breakage, and potentially the death of the tree, especially if the tree is already stressed.

A man stabs his wife and two-year-old daughter to death and critically wounds himself in a domestic-related murder-suicide attack at 63-35 Forest Avenue in Ridgewood, Queens, New York, on July 19, 2025. On Saturday evening at approximately 7:09 PM, police respond to the address and find a 54-year-old man with a stab wound to the chest, a 41-year-old woman with 18 stab wounds to the neck and chest, and a two-year-old female toddler with nine stab wounds. The two-year-old girl is pronounced dead, the 41-year-old woman is pronounced dead, and the 54-year-old man is originally listed in critical condition. The New York City Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
