Women in Black hold a vigil at Gartnerplatz in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, on December 13, 2024, advocating for justice and peace in the Middle East. They carry banners reading 'Women in Black - Frauen in Schwarz - Fur gerechten Frieden im Nahen Osten' ('Women in Black - For a Just Peace in the Middle East') and 'Gleiche Rechte fur Alle in Palastina und Israel' ('Equal Rights for All in Palestine and Israel'). Their message, 'End the Occupation' and 'Justice for the Palestinians,' echoes their mission since their inception in the late 1980s. Women in Black, an apolitical and non-denominational movement, begin as a silent protest in Jerusalem in 1988 following the outbreak of the First Intifada, marking their stand against the violence and injustice Palestinians face. The Munich group, active since 1990, is part of a global movement that spans over 30 countries. Women in Black receive numerous accolades, including the Aachen Peace Prize and the UNIFEM Millennium Women's Peace Prize. Their presence continues as a symbol of protest against the occupation and a call for justice and peace.
