In Krakow, Poland, on August 1, 2025, the Polish Border Guard participates in the 81st anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising at the Main Market Square. On August 1, 1944, at 5:00 p.m., the 'W' hour, the Warsaw Uprising begins with the aim of liberating the capital from German occupation before the Red Army enters. The uprising is supposed to last a few days, but it falls only on October 3 after 63 days of fighting. Between 16,000 and 18,000 Home Army soldiers and between 150,000 and 180,000 civilians die, and the city is completely destroyed.
