A cover page of Stanislav Aseyev's book 'Path of Light: The Story of a Concentration Camp' in De Revolutionibus Books bookstore in Krakow, Poland on December 7th, 2022. After the outbreak of the 2014 war when Donbass was occupied by separatists supported by Russia, Stanislav Aseyev reported on the events in the region from Donetsk. In 2017, he was abducted and imprisoned for 2.5 years where he was tortured and forced to confess that he was an Ukrainian spy. He served a large part of his illegal sentence in a secret prison at the Isolation military base, called a modern-day Russian concentration camp. He regained his freedom at the end of 2019 as part of a bilateral prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia.
