Tamil Hindu woman holds a pooa coconut as she watches devotees perform the para-kavadi ritual (where they are suspended by hooks driven into their back and legs and bounced up and down as they circle the exterior of the temple) as an act of penance during the Amman Ther Thiruvizha Festival at the Tellipalai Amman Temple in Tellipalai, Northern Province, Sri Lanka. During this religious festival several devotees show their devotion by making offerings and by piercing their bodies with metal hooks and skewers.

Workers separate coir from coconuts at a village in Pewunu, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi Province, Indonesia on September 3, 2020. Most farmers in the area sell their coconut in the form of raw fruit instead of processing it into copra. The price of raw coconut is higher and profitable than being sold in the form of copra, whose price has continued to decline since the beginning of the year. Indonesia is the largest coconut producer in the world. Almost all of the area is covered with coconut trees. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recorded that Indonesia's coconut production in 2017 reached 18.9 million tons, followed by the Philippines with 14 million tons, and India with 11.4 million tons.
