Dengue-infected patients undergo treatment at Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal, on September 24, 2024, as the national capital witnesses a surge in infections. Nepal records more than 11,545 cases of infection since January this year. The Gandaki Province alone records 5,482 cases, while Bagmati, hosting the capital Kathmandu, records 3,178 cases. Dengue is a viral disease transmitted by female Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. The same vectors also transmit chikungunya, yellow fever, and Zika virus, according to the World Health Organization.
