March For The Global Sumud Flottila's 5 French MPs And All Other Prisonners Jailed By Israel
5 October 2025

5 October 2025
People raise their arms during the march. As the Global Sumud Flotilla is stopped by Israel and their members are put in jail, in Toulouse, France, on October 4, 2025, people take to the streets to demand the liberation of all people from the flotilla detained in Israel and to denounce the current Israeli onslaught in Gaza. Five French MPs from the France Unbowed party, including Francois Piquemal (a Toulouse MP), and the leader of the CGT union of Haute-Garonne are arrested and detained in Israel. Several hundred protesters participate in the march. The last gathering called by the CGT, FSU, and SUD unions is violently attacked by riot police on October 2, as the Prefect decides to forbid the gathering and the march one and a half hours before the beginning. Riot police charge and clash violently with peaceful protesters and unionists using tear gas and pepper spray. The Israeli onslaught in Gaza is deemed 'genocide' by the CPI and several NGOs such as Amnesty International, HRW, and PHR. Israel has crossed all the red lines of humanitarian laws and even laws of war. No meaningful humanitarian assistance is delivered to Gaza since March 2, and a UN-related global hunger monitor warns that more than a million people face starvation in Gaza. Now more than 500 Palestinians die of human-made starvation. Since October 7, 2023, nearly 67,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza by the Israeli army.

A woman holds the portrait of the French MP Francois Piquemal, who is aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla. He is arrested on a boat by the Israeli navy. She is arrested by police for her placard, which reads 'Flotilla for 'Kidnapped by Israel.' Called by all trade unions united, thousands of people take to the streets in Toulouse, France, on September 10, against Macron's economic policies after a day called 'Bloquons tout' (Block everything). It is launched at the beginning of the summer on social networks against Macron's policies: downsizing the welfare state to cut taxes for businesses, increasing the Defense budget and Interior Ministry, and his choice of conservative Sebastien Lecornu as the new Prime Minister. His pro-business stance angers French people, who blockade everywhere in France on September 10. A gathering and a march are authorized by the Prefect of Occitanie. The Prefect decides to forbid the gathering called by the CGT union and the march one and a half hours before the beginning. Riot police charge and clash violently with peaceful protesters and CGT unionists using tear gas and pepper spray in Toulouse, France, on October 2, 2025.

Supporters put up placards for the municipal campaign of Francois Piquemal (France Unbowed). On May Day or Labour Day, thousands of people take to the streets in Toulouse, France, on May 1, 2025. Trade unionists, citizens, yellow vests, anarchists, and members of political parties come to the demonstration. This year, people express concern about what French President Emmanuel Macron will do regarding defense and social issues, as he, like other Western leaders, wants to push for defense spending. The French government states that French people will be asked to make efforts concerning the French social model to pay for defense. Antiracism, antifascism, and the Gaza war also serve as mottos of the march.

4 February 2025
MP Francois Piquemal of the left party LFI (France Unbowed) speaks to people who gather. Several trade unions, mainly SUD and the CGT, call for a gathering in front of one of the buildings of the Toulouse Metropole to protest against sweeping cuts. The mayor of Toulouse, Jean-Luc Moudenc (LR right), and head of Toulouse Metropole demands sweeping cuts across the board. In his line of sight are sectors of culture (theaters, activities for children, public libraries), sports such as public swimming pools, sciences popularization (Quai des Savoirs, National Museum of Nature History), social services, or even school canteens. He plans to allocate more money to security cameras (more than 4,000 planned for 2025) and local police. The French government demands the cuts due to a significant shortfall in public finances. The cuts are planned to be anywhere between -60% and -30% of their latest budgets in Toulouse, France, on February 4, 2025.
