People are protesting in Toulouse, France, on December 21, 2023, against the 'Darmamin' law proposed by the French Ministry of Interior, which aims to severely restrict or even eliminate state medical aid, social security, and social benefits for refugees and migrants in France. University presidents and professors are opposing the law, arguing that it contradicts the values of the French Republic and the long-standing tradition of French universities being open to the world. They are concerned that non-European students will face higher fees than French students and a mandatory 'return deposit.' Medical workers are protesting the potential suspension or removal of state medical aid, emphasizing the importance of treating illnesses early to prevent more severe and expensive outcomes. Entrepreneurs are voicing their opposition, citing their need for this workforce for low-paid or seasonal jobs. Teachers are also against the law, as it would make knowledge of the French language mandatory. They argue that there are insufficient resources to teach French to newcomers, including children.

Migrants are seen walking in the fields with the iconic yellow train station of Idomeni and houses in N. Macedonia in the background. Asylum Seekers are trying to cross the Greek-North Macedonian borders to follow the Balkan Route, famous in 2015-2016 during the Syrian refugee crisis, from Idomeni, Greece to Gevgelija, North Macedonia following the train rails and railway station and then reach central and northern Europe. Refugees and Migrants are seen walking in the fields in the Greek side, before the fence that separates the two countries, trying to reach and pass the borders. The small groups are mostly male dominated from Afghanistan, newcomers who began their trip after the Taliban takeover of the country. Among them people from Syria, Pakistan and Iran have been spotted. Asylum seekers claimed that they crossed the border into N. Macedonia but police captured them, beat them and deported them back to Greece, an illegal push back action as they claim. Idomeni, Greece on October 6, 2021
