Community of Sao Sebastiao (Amazonas), 10th Oct 2023 - Aerial scenes of the Sao Sebastiao community, near the Rio Negro. With the stream that once bathed the community now dried up, the connection to the outside world has shifted to a creek located an hour's walk away. For many, the hardship has made life in the village unfeasible. According to the residents, out of 70 families, only 30 remain in the area. This anticipates a phenomenon that could become a reality if droughts like this year's become commonplace: the displacement of entire Amazonian riverside communities to regions more suitable for the new climate regime, a consequence of human activity on the planet.
