Students are continuing their protest for a second week on the campus of Columbia University in New York City, on April 25, 2024. They are camping out with tents still in place as part of the ''Gaza Solidarity Encampment,'' which has evolved into a well-organized community protesting the Israel-Gaza War. The encampment features a schedule of activities, including talks and teach-ins, a First Aid Tent, a food-sharing and distribution system, and a prominently displayed set of community guidelines. Negotiations are ongoing between the students and the administration, following days after Columbia University President Nemat ''Minouche'' Shafik called the NYPD to arrest numerous pro-Palestine students who refused to dismantle their protest encampments on the main campus quad. This action came after President Shafik was questioned before Congress regarding campus antisemitism and the enforcement of rules against protests. The demonstrators are demanding investment transparency, divestment from Israel due to the ongoing Israel-Gaza War, and amnesty for students who have been disciplined for participating in the protests.

Police in riot gear are standing guard outside the Columbia University campus in New York City, USA, on April 23, 2024, as pro-Palestine demonstrators are protesting. Students on Columbia's main quad are facing the public street through a locked gate, using megaphones to lead the crowd assembled outside in chants. Campus security has been tight since the ''Gaza Solidarity Encampment'' protest standoff began a week ago. Since only those with university ID -- and members of the media during certain hours of the day -- are allowed on campus, additional groups of protesters from outside the Columbia community are often forming on the public streets abutting the main quad. Tensions remain high days after Columbia University President Nemat ''Minouche'' Shafik called the NYPD onto the college campus on April 18, 2024, to arrest scores of pro-Palestine students who refused to dismantle protest encampments on the main campus quad. The standoff and arrests occurred after President Shafik had faced questions before Congress on campus antisemitism and enforcement of rules against protests. The demonstrators are demanding divestment from Israel in the wake of the ongoing Israel-Gaza War.

They are protesting after being refused a meeting with the President of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, demanding justice and punishment for those responsible for the disappearance of the students more than 9 years ago.
