A sign on a cafe, closed due to coronavirus, informs passers-by that no food, cash or toilet paper has been left on the premises near Lancaster Gate in London, England, on March 20, 2020. In the UK it has been revealed today that the government's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) has recommended keeping some form of 'social distancing' measures in place for most of a year, with alternating periods of less and more strict restrictions over that time, in order to manage the spread of the covid-19 coronavirus and prevent an overwhelming of hospitals. Schools are meanwhile closing today across the country until further notice, with exceptions for vulnerable children and children with at least one parent designated a 'key worker'.

People pass by as a woman uses an ATM at a branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) on Threadneedle Street in London, England, on July 26, 2019. Four major UK banks, including RBS, are set to release interim figures over the coming days. Half-year results for Lloyds Banking Group are due out on July 31, for Barclays on August 1, for RBS on August 2 and for HSBC on August 5. RBS famously received a massive 45.5 billion in bailout funds from the UK government during the 2008 financial crisis, with RBS chairman Sir Howard Davies admitting last year that a decade-long 'focus on survival' meant it was unlikely this money would ever be repaid in full.

A man uses an ATM at a Pride-themed, rainbow-decorated branch of Lloyds bank on Mortimer Street in London, England, on July 5, 2019. London's 2019 Pride parade takes place tomorrow, with huge crowds expected. Pride this year carries added poignancy as 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York, an uprising sparked by a police raid on a gay club, the Stonewall Inn, in Greenwich Village. The riots are often seen as the moment that set in motion the modern gay rights movement, in the US and beyond.
