Due to heavy rain during the landfall of cyclone YAAS, plenty of bookstalls were submerged and books were damaged due to waterlogged streets. Shopkeepers kept books on the empty roads for drying in Kolkata, India, on June 2, 2021. The Government has given several exception for some small retail shops during a lockdown imposed by West Bengal state to curb the spread of Covid-19 second wave.

According to report more than three hundred thousand homes were destroyed and the people directly were affected by the severe cyclone Yaas, as sea waters along the Bengal coast and rivers started swelling and breached embankments, after the landfall at Odisha at 9.30am on 26 May 2021. Various farms were directly affected by the salt water reached in the farming areas. The cities narrowly escaped from the cyclone hit but remaining coastal areas are in severe condition.
