President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides arrives at the Maheras Monastery for the Afxentiou memorial in Maheras, Cyprus, on March 2, 2025. Grigoris Afxentiou, who dies on March 3, 1957, is a member of EOKA, the resistance group against the English occupation, which acts between 1955-1959 and leads to Cypriot independence in 1960.
