Protesters are walking past a wildfire started by a launched tear gas canister during a march as part of a rally against the construction of a giant water reservoir (mega-bassine) in Migne-Auxances, western France, on July 19, 2024. Fifteen months after the clashes at Sainte-Soline, several thousand opponents of irrigation reservoirs, who have been gathering in the Deux-Sevres since July 16, 2024, are demonstrating in neighboring Vienne on July 19, despite a ban imposed by the authorities. This ''great march,'' aimed at ''extracting a moratorium'' on the construction of water reservoirs, is leading them to fear ''acts of great violence'': more than 3,000 gendarmes are being mobilized to ''protect'' farms and agricultural installations.

The banner reads 'One cant' ban an uprising'. After the violence at Sainte-Soline on March 26th, the protest againt the Lyon-Tunnel and the gathering againt the planned highway A69 the French Interioir ministry Darmanin had ban the ecologist collective 'Les soulevements de la Terre' (SLT)via a decree as he accuses the collective (NGOs, associations, people...) to be responsible for the violence and degradations elsewhere during ecologic protests. 'les Soulevemnts de la Terre' called for gatherings in front of all prefectures in France. In Toulouse, more than 400 people gathered in support of 'les soulevements de la terre'. It's the first time that a ecological collective is banned in France. Riot police was present. The collective could form an appeal but the appeal isn't suspensive. After the ban decree, people saying that they belong now to the SLT risks up to three years in jail and a fine up to EUR45.000. Toulouse. France. June 21th 2023.
