On April 22 2019, the Selimiye mosque and the Phaneromeni Church rise on opposite sides of the capital city of Cyprus, Nicosia, or Lefkosa in Turkish, which remains divided by a United Nations green line following the 1974 occupation of Turkish forces in Northern Cyprus. Today, it is a dynamic city with Turkish Cypriots living in it's northern half and Greek Cypriots living in the southern half. While reunification talks continue, many Cyprus citizens and tourists cross the buffer zone on a daily basis to conduct business and shopping.
