The government of Sri Lanka has authorized a 3% increase in the Value-Added Tax (VAT), raising it from 15% to 18%, effective on January 1, 2024. This increase aims to meet the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) revenue targets following the country's most significant economic crisis in over seventy years, caused by a shortage of foreign reserves.

The Kejriwal cabinet has decided to reduce VAT on diesel from 30% to 16.75%. This will reduce the price of diesel in Delhi from Rs 82 to Rs 73.64 i.e. by Rs 8.36 per litre.
