After walking approximately 580 kilometers, pilgrims can be spotted around the Nidaros cathedral, the endpoint of the Scandinavian pilgrimage 'St. Olavsleden'. Construction of the cathedral on top of St. Olav's tomb began in 1070 and it soon became a destination for pilgrims who sought comfort and help. Near the cathedral, hikers can find the 'Nidaros pilgrimsgard', the place where the pilgrims after collecting their stamps can get their diploma also called Olav's letter. Stiklestad is a place of interest for two reasons. One because marks the last 100km, which is necessary to walk in order to get the diploma at the Nidaros cathedral. And second, because here took place the battlefield where the Viking king Olav Haraldsson, later St.Olav, was killed in 1030. This battle represents the introduction of Christianity in Norway. In order to get the diploma also called Olav's letter at the end of the trail at the Nidaros cathedral in Trondheim, Norway, the pilgrims must collect decorative stamps placed along the route and located inside mailboxes.
