Lee reaffirms the bilateral alliance during a ceremony commemorating the 72nd anniversary of the 1950-53 Korean War armistice at the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., in a speech delivered on his behalf by Veterans Minister Kwon Oh-eul. On July 27, 2025, in Pohang, South Korea, the South Korean steel product company POSCO factory complex is located in Pohang, South Korea. The U.S. President Donald Trump's administration continues to have ''productive'' negotiations with Korea to reduce ''unfair'' trade barriers and enhance market access for U.S. businesses, a White House official says. Korea makes concerted efforts to reach a trade deal with Washington to reduce the threatened 25 percent ''reciprocal'' tariffs and sector-specific tariffs on steel and automobiles before August 1, when the reciprocal tariffs are set to take effect.
