Tamil Hindu devotee carries a pot of milk on her head (as an act of penance) during the Thaipusam Festival at the Thiru Murugan Temple in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Around 3500 devotees took part in the festival, which commemorates the occasion when the Goddess Parvati gave Lord Murugan his Vel (spear) so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman.

The txatxos part of the carnival procession in Lantz Navarra Lantz, Spain, 9 February 2016 Lantz Carnival is one of the most important festivals celebrated in Lantz and most massive of Navarra, Spain.It is a celebration of traditional character that takes place in the days leading up to Ash Wednesday.When night falls the streets of the town are flooded with neighboring representing different characters and staging Otxin Honey capture an evil villain. Among the characters represented we are:Honey Otxin: An evil villain representing evil spirits. His name is because in ancient stole thousand otxines (the currency that once was used in Navarra). Monday is captured and paraded through the town to the sound of txistu and tambourine while Shrove Tuesday after a new morning and evening walk, is executed and burned at the stake, while the villagers dancing zorziko around it.Ziripot: Dress is filled sacks of grass or fern, this chubby character through the streets of Lanz Zaldiko while knocking down continuously throughout the course.Zaldiko: Alegre and jumping, half man half horse, dressed in their best clothes (with a horse on his waist) Ziripot trips down.Arotzak: Son blacksmiths with hammers and pincers, who put the horseshoes to Zaldiko.Interestingly, while all members of the troupe come together and depart from Posada, blacksmiths do so from a private home. On the other hand, they do not make the trip with all the other characters, but act on two specific points of the route.Txatxo: They represent the population of Lantz, clad in animal skins and old and colorful clothes, carrying straw brooms and masked, scream, harass and lash out at everyone in the singular representation.
