People jog along the near-deserted South Bank of the River Thames in London, England, on April 8, 2020. With the country not predicted to reach its covid-19 coronavirus 'peak' for another week or more, the current lockdown conditions in place across the UK are widely expected to be extended in the coming days beyond the looming end, next Monday, of the three-week period of restrictions that was initially imposed. The matter is reportedly set to be addressed by Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab at Thursday's daily press conference. Raab is presently deputising for Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who tested positive for covid-19 last month and is currently in intensive care at St Thomas' Hospital in London. Across the UK, meanwhile, 60,733 people have now tested positive for the coronavirus, with 7,097 having died.

Two men jog along a near-deserted South Bank in London, England, on March 24, 2020. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday evening instigated an unprecedented UK 'lockdown' to combat the spread of the covid-19 coronavirus, instructing citizens not to leave their homes other than to buy essentials, for medical reasons and to provide care, to travel to and from work if 'absolutely necessary', and to exercise once a day. All shops selling non-essential goods were ordered to close. A further 87 people were today announced to have died from the coronavirus in the UK, bringing the total to 422.
