Decumanus maximus and Arch of Caracalla in the ancient Roman town of Volubilis in Meknes, Morocco, Africa. Volubilis is a partly excavated Roman city built in the 3rd century BC onwards as a Phoenician (and later Carthaginian) settlement. The site was excavated and revealed many fine mosaics, including some of the more prominent public buildings and high-status houses were restored or reconstructed. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site , listed for being 'an exceptionally well preserved example of a large Roman colonial town on the fringes of the Empire'.

A worker tastes desalinated water from pipe at the first seawater desalination factory in southern Africa near Swakopmund, Namibia. The first large desalination plant was inaugurated by Areva on the 16 April 2010. The Erongo plant is located near Wlotzkasbaken, 30 km north of Swakopmund. Its maximum capacity is 20 million m3 per year. The plant has a contract to sell water to state-owned service provider Namwater and provides 75 percent of the water requirements for the city of Swakopmund. During the 2016 drought, Areva offered to sell its plant to the Namibian government. (
