A scene memorasing a well-known incident involved paratrooper John Steele of the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, whose parachute caught on the spire of Sainte-Mere-Eglise church, and could only observe the fighting going on below. He hung there limply for two hours, pretending to be dead, before the Germans took him prisoner. Tuesday 6th June is the 73rd anniversary of the D-Day landings which saw 156,000 troops from the allied countries including the United Kingdom and the United States join forces to launch an audacious attack on the beaches of Normandy. On Tuesday, June 6, 2017, in Sainte-Mere-Eglise, Manche, France.
