Lee Jae-myung, Leader Of The Democratic Party, Attends Court On The Eve Of The General Election
9 April 2024

9 April 2024
Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, is attending a press conference at the Seoul Central District Court in Seoul, South Korea, on April 9, 2024, the day before the general elections. He is appearing in court for trials related to Daejang-dong, Seongnam FC, and Baekhyeon-dong. During the conference, Lee is urging the public to 'definitely prevent the political forces that betrayed the people from gaining a majority of the seats.' The court is currently facing criticism for infringing on press freedom by restricting filming at the courthouse entrance to only court-accredited journalists or registered media outlets. Among the candidates running in the general election, about ten are undergoing trials. Uniquely, due to the prosecution's strong request, Lee Jae-myung is not rescheduling his trial and is proceeding with it on the day before the election, which has drawn criticism for potentially interfering with the election process.
