BAYEUX, FRANCE - JUNE 16, 2023: The official comemoration event at General de Gaulle Square, outside the monument that commemorates the speech of General de Gaulle on June 14th, 1944, in Bayeux, France, on June 16, 2023. More than a hundred high school students, veterans and officials walked through the center of Bayeux to celebrate a triple anniversary: June 14, 1944 - General de Gaulle's return to French soil, the restoration of the institutions of the republic; June 16, 1946 - the famous Bayeux speech, laying the foundations for the Fifth Republic; and the more recent creation of the National Order of Merit in 1963.
