A police presence remains on the scene following a devastating fire in Millville, New Jersey, on April 10, 2025, that claims the lives of two young girls and leaves a community in mourning. The blaze erupts late Wednesday night along 4th Street near Railroad Avenue, tearing through several homes, leveling two, and damaging four others. A significant police presence and a large crime scene are established as authorities respond to the tragedy. Firefighters battle the flames into the early hours of Thursday, searching through smoldering rubble for two missing children. By late morning, family members receive heartbreaking news: one girl's body is found. Hours later, in the afternoon, the body of her sister is also recovered. The girls' parents and two other siblings narrowly escape the inferno, though one person is hospitalized with injuries that are not disclosed. No firefighters are harmed during the response. The fire displaces at least 23 residents, leaving families grappling with the loss of their homes and, for one, the unimaginable grief of losing two children. The cause of the fire remains under investigation as the community begins to rally around those affected.

An 'Ecureil' living in a tree films the driver of the excavator tearing a tree off. After months of negotiations and pressures from NGE/Atosca, and two attacks by incendiaries, Alexandra, the tenant of the 'Verger,' decides to quit her house after concluding an arrangement with ATOSCA. Alexandra thanks every zadiste (i.e., development protester) who stays there until her departure, calling them 'heroes.' Immediately, Atosca begins the destruction work of the house and the cutting of all the trees. 'Zadistes' try to resist the Gendarmerie in the house without success. 'Ecureuils' (i.e., 'squirrels') live in the trees of the 'Verger' ZAD (Zone to Defend). The driver of the excavator is admonished by the Gendarmerie for his dangerous behavior with the excavator, putting human lives in danger. The main collective 'La Voie est Libre' (i.e., 'The Way is Free') wants the highway project to be stopped until all the judicial decisions on the content are given. All expropriations for farmers are not cleared. Opponents of this project say that the reprofiling of the N126 will be sufficient for the 6,000 vehicles planned per day and would cost far less money. The A69 highway will cost EUR512 million (in 2018 euros without inflation) for 53 kilometers. More than 100 protected species and 400 hectares of agricultural fields will be destroyed. This takes place in Verfeil, France, on September 16, 2024.

The Rufous Treepie (Dendrocitta vagabunda) is a bird native to the Indian subcontinent and adjoining parts of Southeast Asia. It is a member of the crow family, Corvidae. In the forest, a plastic packet of food, thrown by humans, is stuck in a tree, turning into a trap. A wild Rufous Treepie is trying to tear the plastic to eat the food, sometimes getting its beak stuck in the plastic hole. At other times, the plastic looks like an imaginary wing when viewed from the side. This photo was taken on World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5 to highlight environmental challenges.
