9 year-old Raquel Concepcion Menendez and 6 year-old Jean-Carlos Concepción Menendez watch TV before going to school as they wait to be evicted from their home in Madrid, Spain, Wednesday, Feb. 19th 2014. Maria Menendez Melendez 29 year-old from Dominican Republic has been living for eight years with his partner Carlos and their two children, Raquel Concepción Menendez 9 year-old and Jean Carlos Concepcion Menendez 6 year-old, in an apartment property of "La CAM -Sabadell" with which they contracted a mortgage that haven't paid for 6 years. Before becoming unemployed Maria worked as a kitchener in a restaurant where she was receiving a salary of 900 euros (1238$) per month, which allowed her to cope with the initial mortgage of 800 euros (1100$). During the beginning of the financial crisis in Spain Maria lost her job and the mortgage rose to a position of 1070 euros (1472$) per month making impossible to pay it and by that they contracted a debt with the bank. By then Maria's partner, Carlos lost his job too and was perceiving an unemployment benefit of 421 euros (579$) per month which was the only economic income that had at home, after a while Carlos decided to start his own business, a food store, becoming autonomous, but because of the expenses and debts he had to close on February of 2014 and he had to reapply for an unemployment benefit. With the help of "La PAH" ( platform of the affected by mortgages) the first attempt of eviction has been postponed undated. The family will try to negotiate a social rent with the owner of the apartment, La CAM-Sabadell.
