Workers process animal skins in a Leather factory in Hazaribagh, Dhaka. Tanneries in the city's Hazaribagh area discharge 30000 square meters of liquid waste everyday. The tanneries discharge the effluents into the river system causing a large area of acid sludge..The Bangladeshi leather industry has earned 980.67 million US dollar from the exports of leather and leather goods in fiscal 2012/2013, according to Bangladesh's Export Promotion Bureau.

Lead poisoning is entirely preventable, yet lead exposure is estimated to account for 0.6% of the global burden of disease, with the highest burden in developing regions. Childhood lead exposure is estimated to contribute to about 600,000 new cases of children with intellectual disabilities every year.

Over 50 different indigenous societies live in Bangladesh, scattered around country. Among them, their female members are perhaps some of the people most excluded from the rest of society, in terms of education, health care and government resources. This year United Ntions make slogan for ths day is "Ensuring indigenous peoples' health and well-being".
