The church spire of the submerged village of Graun protrudes from the nearly completely drained Reschensee Lake during construction work for a new alpine road on May 23, 2024, near Resia, Italy. Reschensee Lake is a reservoir formed by a 1950s dam. The road that traces its edge has become precarious due to unstable mountain rock overhead. To counter the dangers of rockfalls, avalanches, and mudslides, the road and nearby cycle path at Lake Resia near Curon Venosta are being relocated 70 meters closer to the reservoir. Climate change is melting the permafrost that stabilizes these alpine rocks, endangering numerous mountain passes across the European Alps. After the new road is constructed, Reschensee will be refilled. This ambitious project, costing 20 million euros, is expected to wrap up by June.

Immanuel Zebua, a 39-year-old Senior Officer of Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) at PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) Belawan Multipurpose Terminal, is working at the terminal in Belawan, Medan City, North Sumatra, Indonesia, on March 18, 2024. Serving as a crucial link from the Malacca Strait to the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea (Pacific Ocean), the Belawan port also connects routes between the Western and Eastern regions within the 'Silk Road'. According to Pelindo's annual report for 2021-2022, the port company saw a container flow of 17.22 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2022, marking an increase from the 17.06 million TEUs in 2021 and 15.67 million TEUs before the merger in 2020. Similarly, the flow of non-container goods is showing a positive performance, with 160 million tonnes recorded in 2022, up from 146.2 million tonnes in 2021 and 133.8 million tonnes in 2020. This growth aligns with Indonesia's economic expansion, as reflected in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which grew by 5.31 percent in 2022 and 3.70 percent in 2021, especially notable in the post-Covid-19 pandemic period.

A member of LVEL is arguing with riot policemen in Saix, Tarn, France, on March 1, 2024. Following the report by Michel Forst, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, which demanded the resupply of 'Ecureuils' living in the trees of the 'Crem'Arbre' ZAD (Zone To Defend), activists from LVEL (La Voie Est Libre or The Way Is Free) and other associations are attempting to get past the riot police to deliver supplies. Despite efforts, including those by MPs like Karen Erodial, they have not succeeded. The 'Ecureuils' ('squirrels') have taken to the trees to prevent them from being cut down in the path of the planned A69 highway between Toulouse and Castres. The Gendarmes Mobiles (riot police) have intervened to remove all opponents from the ZAD and are now standing guard near the trees to prevent the 'Ecureuils' from receiving food and water from supporters. After two days, the police have only managed to dislodge one 'Ecureuil', but new trees are now being occupied by 'Ecureuils' at a new site called 'Cal'Arbre'. The collective 'La Voie est Libre' is demanding that the highway project be halted until all judicial decisions are finalized, noting that the expropriations for farmers have not been resolved. Opponents argue that upgrading the N126 would be sufficient for the anticipated 6,000 vehicles per day and would be much less expensive. The A69 highway is projected to cost EUR512 million (in 2018 euros, excluding inflation) for 54 kilometers, and its construction would result in the destruction of over 100 protected species and 400 hectares of agricultural land.
