19 August 2024
Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and National Conference (NC) Vice President, Omar Abdullah (C), along with his colleagues, is addressing a news conference before releasing the manifesto of the party for the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on August 19, 2024. The elections to Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly are being held after a gap of 10 years in three phases on 18 September, 25 September, and 01 October. Jammu and Kashmir has been without an elected government since 19 June 2018, when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pulled out of its alliance with People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by Mehbooba Mufti. A year later, the BJP-led government at New Delhi is ending the semi-autonomous character of Jammu and Kashmir by abrogating Article 370 of the Indian constitution and by dividing the state into two federally-controlled Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh.
