England began its third national lockdown today, with people across the country once again instructed to stay at home, other than for specific exemptions, with schools again shut as they did during the first lockdown last spring. The imposition of these new restrictions, announced yesterday evening in a televised address by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, comes in response to authorities' concern that the National Health Service (NHS) could soon be overwhelmed with covid-19 sufferers, and alongside plans to ramp up the UK's coronavirus vaccination programme in the coming days and weeks.
