A general view of Cemarajaya Village in Karawang Regency, West Java Province, on January 26, 2024, is showing the effects of increased abrasion due to waves and rising sea levels. Village residents are reporting that the village is losing an average of 5 meters of land each year to the sea. Since 1998, the village has been experiencing tidal waves and rising sea levels, along with tidal floods, especially after plantation land was converted into fish and shrimp ponds. The plantations that the residents once had have now disappeared, and their houses are sinking. Originally located about 1 kilometer from the coastline, Cemarajaya Village is now directly on the front line, facing the waves, and continues to suffer from abrasion, which is threatening its very existence.
