A Greek patrol ship of the Hellenic Navy is patrolling the Aegean Sea water borders between Greece and Turkey, just outside Kos Island with Turkey in the background with summer houses, resorts and hotels visible. Patrols are for military purposes but also for boats with refugees and migrants in addition to the FRONTEX force that guards the European borders since the refugee crisis. The vessel that patrols for asylum seekers trying to cross with a dinghy from the Turkish coast is a Diopos Antoniou P286 Hellenic Navys Kelefstis Stamou class small missile boat. Frontex is the European Border and Coast Guard Agency that is operating right now the Poseidon land operation that oversees the southeaster land border of the EU with Turkey on the Evros river region. Greece is strengthening the border patrol with more personnel, vehicles, fences, drones, surveillance systems etc, while EU is supporting the border fortification financially. Asylum seekers, migrants and refugees used Evros as an entrance point to Europe, while in March 2020 a huge wave of thousands of people tried to cross the borders.
